Monthly Challenge: July 2020: Rob

The challenge this month has only 2 parts. 1.  Re-record/film 2 transcriptions from the first 4 months of this blog. 2. Improvise over this EDM track.  No video is needed, this is an audio/logic assignment.  You are free to process your sound in logic as much as you wish.  You can play with the song or blow over it.  Try utilising the chromatic scale.   You will need to download the audio from youtube.  Drag it into logic.  Set-up your bass to record, drop ecstasy and play.  Flex time and pitch,  automation, effects, etc from logic are all available.   Be creative with the tools available then post as an audio file.  Have fun.

St. Thomas _Sonny Rollins solo...

Great solo by Sonny Rollins. Been meaning to learn this forever. Had not been able to get it past 80% but gave a stab at it a few days ago at 100% and here it is .... so much info in this recording.

Things Ain't What They Used To Be_ Ray Brown Solo

Well...I've played this a lot better but none the less it is done and memorized. Really on a Ray Brown kick now. Love the way he articulates 8th and 16th notes plus everything seems to always make sense.

Not You Again: John Scofield

Worked hard on Sco's articulation.  This seems to be the key to finding where his lines are most playable.  Loads of hammer-ons and pull offs.  I am not playing this at 100% but I will.  This is a joy to play at manageable speeds, so it is worth getting it up to 100 (probably should have started sooner).  Also have it memorized, as per the monthly challenge.  I will get the other stuff up in a day or two.

There will never be another you: Chet Baker Solo

I have come to the conclusion that I stray too far from the melody when soloing.  This is a perfect example of melodic development and embellishment.  Very short, but great little solo.  Didn't put any great effort into the notation...  but oh well.

May Practice Challenge Videos

In Your Own Sweet Way- Played through it. Used several of the arpeggios and a few of the licks from solos. Not perfect as I added a few roots but still quite a bit better than I thought it would be. No Hexatonic action.... My Shining Hour.....
