Big J: Kenny Garrett solo

Short solo, but a nice one.  Really like how he mixes staccato and legato notes within a line.  The clipped notes are a nice contrast to the laid-back swing feel.  Tried to notate some of these places.  Also adding a performance with a backing track.  I find this really helpful for getting the solo more ingrained into my (thick) head, and not relying on audio cues from the original recording. With Backing track:

So in my January attempt I didn't get it up to speed so this is what I focused on. Recording is a little unbalanced. The Charlie Haden solo came back very quickly. I will memorize it eventually. Still trying to incorporate the melodic approach he has and tone in my own attempts. I will just post videos. When The Saints_Blue Mitchell Waltz for Ruth_Charlie Haden

Walkin solo by Miles Davis

Absolutely loved this one. For the most part it is easy to play except the few triplet and 16th note lines. Great use of space. I will probably take more out of this solo than any other horn solo.

You Look Good To me and I'm an Old Cowhand solos by Ray Brown

Still on my Ray Brown kick.  These are short solos so I thought I better do 2 solos. Not perfect but really working on his 8th note phrasing and trying to bring it more into mine. Work in process.
