But Not For Me Solo by Chet Baker

This has been on my list for awhile. Very melodic and thoughtful. Chet Baker lays well for the bass. It is short but filled with stuff. I played it up the octave from where it is written in my chart.

Kadota's Blues Solo By Ray Brown

Still on my Ray Brown mission. This one is a masterpiece. Really makes each chorus connected. Going to keep working on this.

How Deep is the Ocean: Ben Webster Solo

Ben Webster has always been my favourite player of the pre-bob sax ilk.  (Pres, Hawk, Hodges, etc).  Admittedly, this is a really short solo (crazy busy month), but I feel like I learned lots here.  Ben treats every note with such reverence.  His airy tone, vibrato, slurs and slides into notes are hard to recreate on the guitar, but fun to try.

Careful: Jim Hall solo

This is a Jim Hall composition that he recorded several times during his career.  This version is from a Gary Burton album " Something's Coming!" from 1963. I have been really into Jim this past month. Truly the father of modern Jazz guitar. Solo sounds easy, but it gave me some trouble. Even though Jim isn't known as a technical player, he has his moments with rakes and slurs that are hard to replicate. Amazing sense of rhythm and melody. You are going to see and hear lots more of Jim in the coming months. ☺

Big J: John Scofield solo

Quirky little tune.  The film editing department was a little last getting this processed for publication.  Sco has this time feel that I am trying to assimilate.  He seems to lay back on the beat, but his double times are dead on.  Also tricky to play with that sound that is right in your face, so up front.  I will keep working on Scofield...
